UCLA develops HIV monitoring for cell phones

December 27th, 2008

In the lab of UCLA electrical engineering professor Aydogan Ozcan, a prototype cell phone has been constructed that is capable of monitoring the condition of HIV and malaria patients, as well as testing water quality in undeveloped areas or disaster sites. The innovative imaging technology was invented by Ozcan, a member of the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA, and has been miniaturized by researchers in his lab to the point that it can fit in standard cell phones.

Robocup - Finals for Suzhou

July 29th, 2008

Borregos 3D is the name of our Robocup team. As I commented on an earlier post, this is one of the projects I took for the summer, and it had terrific results. We were eliminated from the tournament in the third round, as the third place of group A. If you review the results with care, you will see that the games we lost, we played against the first and second place of the whole tournament, so it is not a bad result at all.

While this was a good result, it could be greatly improved if we send a bigger programming team to the competence, so we are starting some fund-raising activities, including the sale of several promotional products that feature our logo (shown below). Please do leave a comment if you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt, sticker or baseball cap.
